Karina also gave an inspiring speech to the Douglas College graduating class when accepting her Douglas College Distinguished Alumni Award. She finished her speech with words of wisdom for the new graduates: “A career is full of opportunities to look fear in the face (trust me, I know), and I hope during each of those moments you think back to your time here at Douglas, the skills, lessons, and confidence it has taught you, and know that you can and will succeed.” Thank you to Douglas College – Karina is so honored and humbled to be recognized!

Growth Hacking: The Only Kind of Hacking You Want

growth hacking

When one thinks of “hacking”, there are a few things that typically come to mind: security breaches, information or photo leaks, even credit card fraud – all things that you would definitely not want to happen to your business!

However, that perception of hacking is quickly changing with the onset of “growth hacking,” a marketing technique used to optimize online metrics through low-cost and high payoff initiatives. Think of it as search engine optimization taken to the next level.

Entrepreneur Sean Ellis (the first marketer of Dropbox) coined the term “growth hacker” in 2010, and in the process revolutionized not only how successful companies approach their online marketing strategy, but also how marketers understand the potential role of “hackers” within their business plan.

Growth hacking is concerned primarily with increasing user activity – be it the number of clients you receive, views to your webpage, or sign-ups for your app, newsletter, or online community. One important thing to recognize is that no two approaches to growth hacking are the same. Marketers need to understand their strengths and weaknesses before implementing growth hacking in order to capitalize on growing the areas that are most important to their core business.

Once these areas have been identified, growth hackers will use a combination of online marketing techniques catered to your specific needs – whether it is social media, search engine optimization, content marketing, a/b testing, or guerilla marketing. These online marketing techniques will be blended together to accomplish one goal for your company: growth.

For companies looking to take their online marketing to the next level – growth hacking seems to quickly becoming the way of the future. Prizm Media has recently brought a talented growth hacker on board, and is excited about the opportunity to develop innovative and effective growth measures for both our clients and for our Kudolife platform.

If you are interested in learning more about growth hacking, or more specifically, how Prizm can use growth hacking to make a measurable difference in your company’s marketing effectiveness, we would love to hear from you!
