What's New@

Prizm Media has skyrocketed in the last few months, and we’ve never been more excited about the future than we are right now. Not only are we continuing our jam-packed schedule and business momentum, but we’ve reached all-new levels of prominence in our corporate and industry sectors.

Making the 2015 TiE50 Top Start-up list was an incredible milestone for Prizm Media. Companies lauded by TiE50 Silicon Valley have an estimated wealth production of over $200 billion dollars with the network itself considered as one of the largest expansive pools of intellectual capital in its space. The highly competitive awards program only selects 153 companies worldwide to compete for the first 50 spots out of more than 2700 international applicants. Our Co-founders Zeeshan and Karina Hayat are going on to present as a candidate for the coveted 2015 TiE50 Winner status at TiEcon Silicon Valley, the largest entrepreneurial conference in the world. We couldn’t be more honored or more humbled to receive this prestigious honor. Congratulations to all the technology companies who made the list and all nominees, and check us out at TiEcon from May 15-16.

Zeeshan will also be attending ad:tech this month as Prizm Media representatives in San Francisco from May 20-21. ad:tech is a global conference and exhibition that combines marketing, technology, and media networks to collaborate and produce new ideas, create partnerships, and design ways to advance our industries. Together, companies push for new developments in our dynamic marketplace and promote changes that drive these communities to grow. If you’re attending, touch base with us at [email protected] or (604) 326-0096.

Our Co-founders have also been recently recognized individually for their decisive leadership in business, community contributions, and corporate success. Zeeshan’s ACETECH Roundtable CEO group “Knights of the Roundtable” received the “Roundtable of the Year Award” at the Whistler Summit 2015. Meanwhile, Karina won the highly regarded Douglas College “Distinguished Alumni Award” that will be presented to her at a ceremony on June 3.

Hiring the Best & Brightest Tech Talent for Your Start-Up: Fast Strategies that Work

“Hire slow and fire fast” – it’s a catchy phrase that few of us can follow. Most employers don’t have the luxury of taking their time to find the ideal candidates, especially in the highly competitive, fast-paced technology space. Despite this, getting the best and brightest talent can be efficient, easy, and even fun. Follow these human resources strategies to create the ideal tech team for your business.

1. Use a Specific Job Title

Not having a clear job title is one of the simplest yet overlooked obstacles in finding great tech candidates. Buzz words and exciting names are great for catching people’s attention. Nevertheless, the reality is that they are far more likely to search for “Data Analyst” than “Transcultural Data Anthropologist” when they’re searching for a new position. When you make it obvious who you’re looking for, you’ll receive more qualified resumes faster and be far more likely to find the perfect tech employee.

2. Write an Attractive, Clear Description

A tempting description of your tech position is the main push that turns readers into applicants. Put yourself in your audience’s shoes and consider what would make you want to work for you. Sell your excellent corporate culture, appeal to their love of free brownies, emphasize yearly bonuses, sell your staff perks, promote your generous healthcare benefits, and highlight your fantastic vision. Remember, you’re likely competing with dozens of other great sounding busineses for a select number of qualified candidates. Spend an extra five minutes to make sure your job posting will have people fighting for a spot at your exceptional company.

3. Take Advantage of Multiple Platforms

You never know how the perfect tech candidate will find your opening, so it’s best to cast a wide net for your open position. A traditional platform like an online job board is a reliable way to get resumes but remember that today’s tech candidates have their fingers on the pulse of the latest in job hunting tactics. Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, word of mouth, employee referral programs, and more are effective, quick ways to gain more qualified applicants. You never know where you’ll find your ideal tech employee.

4. Make it Streamlined

When people are looking for a new job, chances are that they will send their resume to multiple companies at once, and any obstacle may deter them from applying in their rush. Make it easy for tech applicants to contact you and you’ll see your potential candidates skyrocket.

5. Filter for the Fit You Want

Don’t go through all the work of gathering resumes without being confident that they will be right for you. Though it’s not always obvious to determine, a little preliminary work will save you hours in wasted interviews. You can tell a lot about an applicant in their cover letter and resume. Look at their experience, their education, how they write, and the story their application tells. If they have only worked at huge corporations and you’re a dynamic start-up, see if they specify why they want to change their workplace environment. If they write playfully and you’re a highly formal office, carefully consider if they’ll suit your team. There are always exceptions but being initially critical of candidates can be an invaluable resource-saving tool during your hiring efforts.

These are just some of the strategies that will ensure that you’ll find the right tech candidate for your company. However, don’t forget that outsourcing talent is always an option. In lead generation, turning to an experienced and trustworthy firm can be the best choice to optimize your time and your budget.
