Whats New At Prizm

With the holiday season behind us, we are back to work and very excited about everything that 2015 has to offer – but that doesn’t mean that 2014 ended without a few great staff events!

The end of December marked the first ever Prizm Media “Secret Santa” gift exchange. Prizm staff had a great time exchanging thoughtful and hilarious gifts, eating a delicious lunch, and having a ton of fun plotting and planning the perfect gift for their chosen co-worker. It was a huge hit, and definitely seems like the start of another Prizm tradition!

Now Trending: How to Stay Social Media Savvy in 2015

There’s no doubt about it that social media has become a way of life – whether it is to stay connected with family or friends, track the lives of your favorite celebrities, or to manage a business. In fact, according to a recent infographic published by Hootsuite, over 1.7 billion people on the planet are actively using social media. For those who may be counting, that’s roughly one quarter of the world’s population.

With that in mind, staying on top of the latest social media trends has become more important than ever – especially when it comes to keeping your business visible in an ever-changing online landscape. That is why this month, we are bringing you the top three social media trends to be aware of when it comes to managing your company’s online presence in 2015.

  • Consumer-Curated Advertising

We’ve all experienced it. One day you are looking at a website about something oddly specific – say, space camp – and the next thing you know your Facebook page is flooded with advertisements for every space camp in the country. These specific, targeted ads based (also known as “Integrated Social Advertising”) on your browsing history or demonstrated interests are Facebook’s way of trying to get more mileage out of their advertising efforts.

It’s safe to expect that this trend will extend into other platforms in 2015, especially on those social media outlets that are primarily image or video-based. Don’t be surprised to see ads for your favorite clothing brands, music artists, or popular restaurants popping up on your Instagram feed in the new year.

  • World Wide Wallet

Spending and managing your money online began with sites like PayPal, eBay, and online banking, then Apple tried to change the game in 2014 when it unveiled Apple Pay. Now, social media outlets are throwing their hat into the ring when it comes to how you choose to manage your finances over the Internet.

2015 might just be the year that commerce truly comes to social media, and sites like Facebook or LinkedIn secure themselves as media that can handle your day-to-day transactions. While the simplicity of having your social life and finances all in one place may seem desirable to some, the constant air of privacy concerns may be a major deterrent for others. Either way – it is likely that we will see another step towards bringing your wallet to the web in 2015.

  • The New Kid in Town

Social media behemoths like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram have largely dominated the online networking landscape for the last few years, but many believe that 2015 is the year that a new online networking giant may emerge.

In fact, Forbes believes that this giant may have already emerged in the form of the “hipster” social media startup, Ello. Unlike many other popular social media platforms, Ello prides itself on the fact that it doesn’t rely on advertising and will never sell your information to third parties, a standpoint that may be desirable to users being pressured to upload their wallets in the coming year. Ello’s website states, “collecting and selling your personal data, reading your posts to your friends, and mapping your social connections for profit is both creepy and unethical.”

It’s hard to say just how successful this strategy will prove to be, but all eyes are on Ello to be the next major social networking outlet in 2015.

In short, social networks in 2015 will continue to try and learn more and more about their users in an effort to customize and optimize their advertising efforts and encourage users to choose them as a venue to manage (and spend!) their finances. In light of this, new networks like Ello will continue to emerge that distance themselves from this mentality and emphasize a secure, ad-free experience where the users personal information will not contribute to the end goal of consumer activity.

It’s clear that 2015 will be one of the most interesting years yet when it comes to the world of likes, hashtags, and mentions. If you remember to keep these three trending tidbits in mind, you can be sure to be one step ahead of the game when it comes to managing your company’s online presence this year.
